If you have SoD from Gog or Steam!

Recommended Posts

If you have SoD from Gog or Steam, please run the DLC Merger before installing mods. This is needed for the mod installer (WeiDU) to be able to access all needed files.

Modmerging is not needed if your SoD comes directly from BeamDog.

(There is also modmerge but DLC Merger is to be preferred as it can be deinstalled like a mod and detected by installers etc.)

If the mod thinks that modmerge is required then it detects something that makes it think that modmerge should run, i.e. your game is not correctly modmerged. This can happen e.g. if you let the game resources be refreshed by redownloading a "clean" install of a game that was modmerged before. After that, running modmerge again will not modmerge the game, despite modmerge telling otherwise.

To revert an SoD-install to a fresh game, it is not sufficient to uninstall the mods and let Steam check the installed files. There will be remnant files that will make the modmerge tools to give false-positive results if you apply them again, and you will encounter problems in your game.

To revert your SoD game from Steam / GOG to a fresh install in terms of modding, you need to do the following (taken from here by @argent77) :

Quote

You could check the following:
- Does the file "sod-dlc.disabled" or "dlc/sod-dlc.disabled" exists? -> Delete the file
- Do the files "sod-dlc.key" and/or "chitin.key.bak" exist? -> Delete the files
- Does "sod-dlc" subfolder exists? -> Delete the folder

Afterwards it's best to reinstall or restore the game to restore the remaining files affected by modmerge.

Modmerge has been replaced by the DLC Merger and is now obsolete. Using the EET installer previous mods were installed OK due to recognising the DLC Merger. However this mod wouldn't install. Clearly some work needs to be done on it to update it.

I can't work with cryptic hints, no matter how often you post them. Give me an error message.

Currently, your repeated declaration of BGQE not working with DLC merger (or whatever you are referring to) seems like an attempt to spread rumors about my mod, so I kindly ask you to either stop doing that or provide concrete information to your problem.

That argent77's DLC merger is superior to modmerge is true and I will update the first post accordingly.

I am installing with the EE-Mod-Setup-master. Could the problem be with that?  I am not trying to say that your mod is faulty, I just want to get the mod installed as I like it.

I will use Modmerge rather than DLC Merger until I discover what the cause of the problem is.

Unless you give me an error message I cannot help you. "the mod wouldn't install" can be due to endless reasons other than the modmerge situation of your SoD game.

To repeat this clearly: the mod does not check for "modmerger" to be installed. It checks whether the game is ready , i.e. "modmerged", for mods to be installed, with a check that was designed by @CamDawg. This check also gives true if you use DLC Merger. You not using "modmerge" is not the problem why the mod didn't install for you, but without an error message and some more infos, there is nothing I can do.

Did you consider what I wrote here as a reply to your first post about this? Because there are instances - especially after redownloading a modmerged game to make it "clean" - where modmerging doesn't do what it says it does. (I guess DLC Merger doesn't have this problem).

And yes, using the EET Install tool might be also cause of the problem. At least I do not know what it does so I canot help you if you use it to install my mods.

Here is a sample of the error messages that I get:

F:\Baldur's Gate - EE\Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition>
ERROR: Failure("Modmerge is required before mods can be installed on this game. Check the readme for more information and a link to download Modmerge.")
Slime Quest (BG1 Mini Quests and Encounters) was not installed due to errors.

I will reply more fully later.

@Wise Grimwald Please tell me whether you made a "clean" install using the Steam or GOG Galaxy feature to redownload the game files (instead of deinstalling and deleting the game folder first).

Because if you did that, it might well be your game is not really modmerged although it pretends to be and bgqe is the only mod warning you about it.

Do you have SoD from GOG or Steam (which one, just curious)?

Does this error message also occur if you install the mod by hand to your SoD game? EDIT: Please answer this question, because as I posted above, I can't help you with the EET Setup Tool.

I can only repeat that the check integrated in bgqe was designed by people who know what they are doing, so if this gives true then your game is, indeed, not modmerged (either by DLC Merger or modmerge). There were false-positives in the past where modmerge pretended to run after a clean redownload of game files but in fact, it didn't.
