Help solving a CTD issue in BG2

Hi,

 

I've just made a new install of BG2 with a variety of mods, most of which I've used before. Unfortunately I'm getting sporadic CTDs with the message:

 

An Assertion failed in InfScreenWorld.cpp at line number 12884

 

 

They always seem to happen during dialogue.

 

This happens maybe every hour or so of gameplay. And it doesn't seem to be reproducible - if I load up a save from before the crash, I can go through the same conversation without incident.

 

A google search didn't find much, except a thread on these forums from a few years ago which doesn't seem to be relevant.

 

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Your load order is not great. Tweaks should go before SCS. 1pp should be much higher, like right after FixPack. And I would do Spell Revisions main components to after D'Arnuse Romance, and the "update spellbooks of NPCs" component to after SCS.

 

But, I have no idea if this is at all related to your CTD. Assertion Failures are often inscrutable, but Google is your friend.

This issue is so hard to pin down. Sometimes it doesn't happen for a long time and I'll think I've solved it - then it happens again. Today I did a new install, mostly following the load order from the big picture pdf as a guide. I started a new game and went all through Irenicus' dungeon (a couple of hours of play) before the game crashed during the dialogue after the confrontation outside.

 

Because it happens seemingly randomly during dialogue, at long intervals, it's hard to troubleshoot in any organised way.

 

The message is always the same (from ToBEx):

 

ASSERTION FAILED! Return Address: 0x7EA0C5 File: InfScreenWorld.cpp Line: 12884 Expression: bResult Message: (null)

 

 

Does anyone know what this file relates to and what mods may affect it? I'd really like to solve this. One thing I've noticed is that it often seems to crash when Minsc is talking.

I just had another crash, when Minsc interjected during a conversation with the circus tent guard in the Promenade.

 

I had a save from directly before, so I reloaded and repeated the conversation at least 15 times. Not a single crash. It's really hard to reproduce the bug :(
