Install errors for BGT SCS (missing files?)

GOG Baldurs Gate 2 Complete (no discs) - BGT - SCS v28

 

SCS setup is missing or unable to locate the following files in the Improved Durlag's Tower component:

 

XR2400.ARE

XR2600.ARE

AX1H01

CDBREAK1

CDBREAK9

SW1H04

BLUN04

deathk.CRE

gooddeat.CRE

 

This is an existing install that I've been playing for a while without any issues to date. I was updating my SCS install to modify another component (Improved Doppelgangers, because the doppleganger's haste/mirror image scripts weren't triggering). I hadn't changed anything in the IDT component but when the installer updated my setup it returned the errors below.

 

I don't recall seeing these errors in previous logs. What could be causing them? Is this going to cause issues when I run DT? Should I just uninstall this component or can I just play through as-is and be ok)? I appreciate any help. I haven't done Durlag's Tower in this run yet but I'm about ready to.

If I reinstall everything will that mean I need to start a new game? Or will I be ok to pick my current save games up where I left off? I noticed weird things sometimes happen when I've done this in the past.

Basically, once you've made your choice of mods to install, worked out the install order etc. don't mess with it anymore. All components of SCS you chose should work on BGT (they do for me on countless installs I've had with v28, so there's little reason to believe this is SCS fault.)

Here's my most recent log of install errors, after I attempted to fix the issue by reinstalling the IDT component:

That's actually uninstall error, and if you at any time removed the SCS folder from the game folder(like for example mod update that you shouldn't do), then you'll be getting this. Or if the game is installed in the wrong directory(this is depending on what OS you have) preventing it from writing the files to that folder.

So you're basically saying that altering the components of ANY mod after starting a game is a no-no? I had thought that the WeiDU installer was built to handle making changes to the components, at least on a limited, not wholesale, basis: http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php?topic=24063.0.

 

 

That's actually uninstall error, and if you at any time removed the SCS folder from the game folder(like for example mod update that you shouldn't do), then you'll be getting this. Or if the game is installed in the wrong directory(this is depending on what OS you have) preventing it from writing the files to that folder.

 

If those are UNINSTALL errors, then I can just ignore them, correct? If I'm understanding correctly, the real issue now is that I've gone and reinstalled SCS. You're saying that means there's a good chance I'm going to run in to bugs, even though SCS was (and still is) installed last in my mod order? My options are to continue playing and pray, or start over from scratch.

 

I do have a fairly recent backup of my Games folder, made prior to doing any changes. Will my BGT install still run if I delete the current Games folder and restore the backup? Never actually attempted that before even though I keep the backups..

So you're basically saying that altering the components of ANY mod after starting a game is a no-no?

The weidu mods do not support active altering of savegames (in most cases at least). This means that if you have visited an area that would be changed, none of the changes will be seen in the save games you have already visited the area with. Same goes for items you have in the inventory and so forth.

The hing is, you can't know if the SCS does any changes or not, so it's likely best just to say no, even if it's not a thing that will likely show up as an elephant in the mirror shop.

Even worse thing is, if you have saved content that was removed from the game with uninstall.

Yes. Also if you look at the weidu.log's two last lines, you see what the program did, it first uninstalled the component and then reinstalled it.

Well, yeah... but I would try first the continue option, it's likely to succeed.

Yes. As long as you start the game with the BGMain.exe, the game is ran from that folder.

I have used a bit of a trickery to actually make multiple BG2 installs, as you can't make two ToB installs, as the program checks the windows registry. I had 7 BG2 iterations running on one computer once.

No. I'm saying that once you install SCS, you leave your install as it is (fwiw, I once installed SCS on BGT with quite a few mods. After several hours, SCS finally installs, I noticed I forgot Ascension....."now where is that BG2 backup...." :D Installing-reinstalling took about 10 hours total...) . You can add a few mods (aTweaks, some BG2Tweaks components, InfinityAnimations and similar) after SCS. Modifying SCS in middle of the game is bound to get you into troubles.

Either:

a) unistall mods in reverse order starting from SCS backwards

b) restore backup if you have it

c) reinstall whole game

 

I'd do b).
