Banter examples

I will post here few examples of the banters I've written to keep you curious :) These are all still quite rough, and I think they will be edited and re-edited. If you have any suggestions, please don't feel afraid to tell.

Banter between Miella and Salvanas:

Salvanas: Oh my fair lady, I am overwhelmed by your gracious charms, my heart pounds like thousand horses marching over the battlefield with undying passion for you.

Miella: Well that is outright unhealthy for you, my dear man. Don’t you think you should sit down and rest for a while...

Salvanas: In your arms I could feel that I need no rest nor sleep, oh my fair haired beauty. Let me express my inner feelings toward you this night, let me fill your heart with similar emotions...

Miella: All right, that’ll be enough. If you don’t stop, I am afraid I will have to fill my heart with even stronger emotions and give your heart a thrust it has never had before.

Salvanas: If that’s the way you feel, beautiful one. I shall miss you face forever more after you have gone. Oh should our hearts connect someday...

Miella: What a strange little man.

Miella and Cernd (I might not get Cernd quite right in here, I haven't had in the party that many times... and is there 'a mother nature' in FR? Or should I replace her with some deity?):

EDIT: Changed Cernd's dialogues a bit.

Miella: Cernd, I don’t quite understand you.

Cernd: How is that?

Miella: Isn’t family important? I mean, even in nature animals make nests and, well, find a pair. They take good care of their offspring.

Cern: Well, many species do, yes.

Miella: Then don’t you think it is important? To have a family, to take care of the loved ones?

Cernd: It is important, of course, but one must take into consideration that there are other important things too. Humans, for example, can learn the ways of Nature to be able to understand it better, and thus let it be their greatest mentor in the great cycle of the world. Once they learn to see Nature in all the forms they understand it better, and know that there is no other way to live but to respect the wonders of It.

Miella: But isn’t it the part of the nature to have children and to take care of them? What I understand is, that if you dedicate your life to understanding something greater is against nature, if you don’t carry on the mission that to me seems to be the most important one there is. I mean, all creatures have children and families, kind of.

Cernd: I guess you are partially right to think that way. It is important to make nests, to take care of the hatchlings and to fulfill the Nature’s call on that particular path. But there are other ways to listen to the call as well, ways that can be as fulfilling and true to the ways of Nature.

Miella: Though I do not share everything in that view with you, you have given me something to think about as we travel.

Hmmmm, interesting. By the way, this:

Salvanas: Oh my fair lady, I am overwhelmed by your cracious charms

should be:

Salvanas: Oh my fair lady, I am overwhelmed by your gracious charms (the typo gremlins get in everywhere)

Also, there is a mother nature in FR, represented by the goddess Chauntea. From memory though, Cernd talks about "Nature" which would indicate to me that he's encircling the whole shebang, including all the aspects of Chauntea and Sylvanus. That's just from memory though, so you might want to comb his dialogues for mentions of "Mother Nature" specifically. :)

Thanks Rob. I think I will amend Cernd's part a bit.

And here is another example, this time with Nalia (it has also something to do with Miella's dad's business...):

Miella: Nalia, your dress is quite nice. Good Calimshan silk, and a nice hue in that colour. Would you mind if I ask where did you purchase it?

Nalia: Oh, it is not bought as such. We had our own dressmaker in the Keep, and she always did all my dresses. The silk is bought from Calimport though, I think. My father had some business there sometimes...

Miella: I am sorry, I shouldn’t have mentioned this. It made you think of your father.

Nalia: Ah, that’s alright. I guess I have tried to keep the thing out of my mind recently, but the thought of him lying there -

Miella: Now there, maybe it is better to think of him the way he was and to remember all the good times you had together. And to cry is not shameful, but something you should do to get the pain out.

Nalia: I know. It is only that I don’t want to be a burden to the group.

Miella: Nonsense. You can talk to me anytime when you want to if it helps.

Nalia: Thank you, Miella.

EDIT: Dressmaker was ok, it was just written together... :)

Just another typo (or 3) to point out.

"Nalia: Ah, that’s allright. I guess I have tried to keep the thing out of my mind recently, but the tought of him lying there -

Miella: Now there, maybe it is better to think of him the way he was and to remember all the good times you had together. And to cry is not shamefull, but something you should do to get the pain out."

should be..

"Nalia: Ah, that’s alright. I guess I have tried to keep the thing out of my mind recently, but the thought of him lying there -

Miella: Now there, maybe it is better to think of him the way he was and to remember all the good times you had together. And to cry is not shameful, but something you should do to get the pain out."

shamefull: only has one l

alright: only has one l

tought: you're missing the h

Thanks, I do need someone to read through them anyway, because if I would check every word from dictionary, I wouldn't get anything written :) , as English is not my first language anyway, so there might be typos or misspelled words at times. I try to be thorough though :(

EDIT: As there was also in this post :(

Miella and Anomen :):( (though I have found out that it is interesting and quite fun to write dialogues to him)- A little bit of the lighter and flirtative side of Miella:

Anomen: Your behaviour is hardly acceptable for a priest, Miella. The way you leave your hair loose, and seem to take life altogether too lightly.

Miella: How is that? You don’t like my hair then? How should I wear it, do you have any suggestions? (Laughs) Lighten up, Anomen. Life is not mere sulking and duty and heroic stories, there is fun and laughter too.

Anomen: (Grudgingly) I hope you will not learn the hard way how harsh life can be, girl. It is not fun and laughter to everyone.

Miella: Girl is it? Oh Anomen, even if life has its hardships, they are easier to endure with a little laughter. Doesn’t Helm ever have fun, did he not even when he was in the world?

Anomen: How can you...! Stop speaking like that, it is not appropriate.

Miella: (Sigh) Alright Anomen, if it hurts your feelings. I do wish you could take it easier every now and then though (blows a kiss toward him).

Anomen: (Blushing) Hrmph.

Miella and Aerie (I somehow remember that Aerie's mother is still alive. If I am completely wrong, please correct me, and I will change this):

Aerie: (Sigh).

Miella: What is it, Aerie?

Aerie: Nothing. I was just - never mind.

Miella: You can tell me. Did you think of your wings again?

Aerie: No! Why does everyone think that everytime I think of something it is about my wings?

Miella: Well, maybe it is because you do mention them often. Nothing against it, personally, you need to talk it to be able to get over it, right? Though you could think of something else for a while, like those roses we saw by the road half an hour ago, or that fawn which we scared off from that brook in the morning.

Aerie: You do make me smile, Miella. Yes, I remember the fawn. Actually I was thinking about my family. How my mother always warned me to be cautious.

Miella: Mothers tend to do that.

Aerie: But I wasn’t, and ended up hurt and mutilated. And now I wonder if she misses me, and what does she think has happened to me.

Miella: That is a sign of healing Aerie.

Aerie: What do you mean?

Miella: You think of someone else for a while, your mother and how she is feeling.

Aerie: Oh...

Nalia: Oh, it is not bought as such. We had our own dress maker in the Keep, and she always did all my dresses.

I think I would use 'seamstress' instead of 'dress maker', but as you know I'm not native english speaker either. :)

Hey, and before I forget: good luck with your project! :(
