Romance any gender

A big hello to the Gibberlings community! :)

I have recently purchased Baldurs Gate 2 EE, and I was wondering if there is any EE compatible mod that lets me romance any character regardless of gender? For instance I wish to romance other female characters while having a female character.

A console command to initiate romances would work as well.

Thanks for the help!

Try the BG2 Tweak Pack: http://gibberlings3.net/forums/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=695

Romance Cheats (Sabre, Richardson, Weimer)

BG2, BGT only
This component allows greater flexibility with the original BioWare romances. Please note that the multi-romance option may cause stuttering when used in conjunction with a third-party mod romance. The player can choose five parameters:

  • No gender requirements (i.e. Aerie romances females)
  • No racial requirements (i.e. Anomen will romance a half-orc)
  • Multiple romances
  • Nothing kills romance (requires multiple romances)
  • Start romances for new games in ToB

These should provide 24 different variants of the romance options (12 for non-ToB games). The 'Start romances for new games in ToB' option is based, in part, upon the NPC Flirt Pack's version of same (and used with permission), but will also work in conjunction with the removal of gender and racial requirements and multiple romances. If all you're looking for is to start romances for new ToB games, use the Flirt Pack instead, as they provide a much more expansive treatment.

And it's got a whole bunch of other useful things in it that you might like.

Alternatively, if you just want to make the romance more accessible, the console command "SetGlobal("ViconiaMatch","GLOBAL",1)" generally works.

Thanks for the reply! This is great! :)

I have but two more questions!

Can I apply the mod midgame (using my current save), or do I need to make a new game? Does it work properly in multiplayer (if both clients playing the session have it installed?)

Also, regarding the console command - what does it exactly do? I am guessing it sets the selected NPC's romance progression to the next stage? Are there any special requirements to make it work?

As to installing the mod mid-game - it would be better to check the ReadMe (http://www.gibberlings3.net/readmes/readme-bg2tweaks.html) and the mod forum (http://gibberlings3.net/forums/index.php?showforum=34).

A small script runs in the game for each romanceable NPC asking if Charname is the right gender and race (and some mod romances are interested in alignment and stats and such also). When the requirements are fulfilled, the Global "NPCMatch" is set to 1. The romance talks then use "NPCMatch" as one of the requirements to activate. So you can cheat your way to eligibility very easily.

Once the romance has started, another global kicks in: "NPCRomanceActive". This starts at 1, when the pair of you are flirting; goes to 2 when the NPC commits; and if it ever gets set to 3 then you've convinced them that it will never work, it's over, finished, whatever were they thinking... (The LoveTalks are governed by a timer global and a counter to keep track of where you are, but you almost certainly won't need to fiddle with those.)

EDIT:

Some mod romances use a very similar structure and naming conventions, some don't - it's best to check on a case by case basis.

There are quite a few romance mods for same-gender romances, and romance mods that allow you to romance a character with both genders.

You should be aware, though, that BG2 Tweaks cheats apply only to the core four characters, Aerie, Anomen, Viconia and Jaheira, and likely not to any Enhanced Editions/mod additions. Also, you should not, under any circumstances, install any romanceable NPC mods with this cheats component from Tweaks, because it will lead to stuttering with many of those mods.
