Calling all modders...

After testing the encounters I did with Anomen, to make sure the romance reactions worked, of course, I became accustomed to NPC acknowlegment of the encounter. Now, I'm playing with an all-mod party, and I must say that I'm really feeling the lack of recognition the NPCs show about my PC's private adventures.

Naturally, there are some mods that will never have RE encounter reactions, since their modders are no longer active, but it would be nice to see them for the mods where the modders are still around and active.

Just my two coppers.

Indeed. In the meantime, Xan BG2 NPC has reactions to Romantic Encounters, and I have heard that Darian, Gavin, Ajantis(as jastey just mentioned) might have them, too. Which is great, of course.

Two moments to keep in mind:

- You don't need our cooperation and/or permission to write your crossmod reactions; it's been explicitly stated in the mod's Readme. Just write and script away. (And if, say, you strongly dislike modder K, you still can write reactions to encounters written by modders A, B, C... - you get the idea. :) )

- I know it can be tiresome to have to update a well-established and working mod just to include a few crossmod reactions, and then, maybe, to see new ones and to have to do it again. Crossmod Banter Pack is here just for this purpose - I am sure a solution can be found.

If it really bothers you so much, why not simply add the content yourself to the next release for the NPCs you think should be reacting?

(yes, this is the nth iteration of the old "why do people treat mods as more sacred than the original game?" debate. But a wonderfully apt one, because, c'mon ladies, if you really want Alassa to react accordingly to Hendak's handjob, I'd say... it's all you.)

Also, Berelinde, and I say this tongue-in-cheek yet earnestly at the same time... do you offer a spreadsheet which indicates which of the Encounters you feel is public and which is private? Surely someone would be irritated to follow your advice and then find you uninstalling their mods because they had the cheek to give their character dialogue about Interlude X, which you are firmly convinced is private...

I think most NPCs could react to any of the encounters. Either the encounter happens right in front of the group's noses; or it is not stated whether the encounter is private or not, thus it could very well be public; or a more or less attentive NPC might get suspicious, accidentally catch the PC in the act or something, even if it is said to be private.

I'll leave that up to you, JC, or to any other modders. If you feel that your NPC is psychic enough to know that the dryad encounter happened, despite the fact that the party seemed to be in a state of suspended animation, knock yourself out. If Nalia knows that Aimi came to the PC's room in the middle of the night, then Nalia needs to learn the value of personal space. Some PCs might get a kick out of her spying on them. I'd find it disturbing.

However, some of the encounters are obvious. Phaere offers Talak's services in the NPC's presence. Desharik practically does what he does in front of the party. If Anomen could see Laran coming out of the PC's bedroom in the morning, so could Kelsey. It's possible that people in the Docks knew what Ada was up to.

It's all about how real the modder wants the reactions to be. Will Gavin know about Renal? Not likely. If the PC isn't sharing his bed, he's not going to stay up all night spying on her. But that doesn't mean she can't confess it to him later. Nor does it mean he won't comment if she accepts Coran's advances in his presence. If the PC ducks into a closet with Anishai and emerges looking disheveled, but content, well, he isn't an idiot (but he might suggest looking for a closet big enough for three, next time - no, he won't, just felt like typing that :) ).

Fortunately, unlike BioWare LTs, all these encounters happen in predetermined places. It's a simple matter to see if they're public or not.

Like I said, as far as I'm concerned, it's all you, and I don't understand why you don't just mod it in yourself. Collaboration can be a fine thing, but I really don't see a need for a G7 summit (or indeed, even a G3 summit, thank you, I will be here all week) on the question of Ribald's ribaldry.

I don't think it's as easy as you imagine it. Some NPCs might be jealous enough to spy on the PC, but some might also discover what <Charname> is doing (or at least something they find odd) by accident. The PC might look dishevelled, as you said, be particularly flushed or (un)happy. An NPC in search for the loo might wonder about the odd moans emanating from <Charname>'s room, an NPC might wonder where <Charname> vanished for so long, what her panties are doing in Edwin's backpack or why her fly is open. That doesn't have to mean they immediately know what's going on, but they might get suspicious or at least ask <Charname> about it.

Not all modders appreciate others writing reactions in for their NPCs. Those that do are pretty much limited to you and Wesley Weimer.

If you're giving the greenlight on Kelsey, cool, but somebody else would have to actually write it, since my familiarity with him is a bit limited. It would definitely be ideal to have Kelsey and Solaufein interjections in at least some of the encounters.

I'd prefer the duel between Anomen and Laran to be special to them, and have Kelsey, Solaufein, and everyone else stay the hells out of it, but that happens only for a committed Anomen relationship, anyway, so the pool of NPCs that might have active romances at the time, besides Anomen's, would be small.

It would certainly be easier to have this material either in Crossmod Banter Pack or in Romantic Encounters itself. NPC observance of the game world does make the game more real. Like I said, Romantic Encounters aren't like lovetalks. They all happen in very specific places, *some* of which are very, very public.

Up to you, or to anyone else, really. If Gavin somehow managed to be up visiting the privy every time the PC snuck off, it would look very, very suspicious. I'd even be likely to joke about his psychic abilities, that somehow managed to perfectly coincide with the PC sneaking off to have a bit of fun on her own time.

But that's what the variables are there for: use them as you see fit!

RE_NPCNameFlirt = 1 means flirting has occurred

RE_NPCNameSex = 1 sex happened

No limits or conditions placed on usage.

Really, is there any privacy at all? I don't recall ever getting the option to rent out multiple rooms when I rest at an inn (unless the "royal" room or whatever, is in fact, a suite of rooms, despite the fact you still see rats running about in the cutscene). Nor do I think I've lugged about a bunch of tents while camping in the wilderness, or even a single tent for that matter.

Seeing that writting these interjections for me involves replaying the whole SoA+ToB, and seeing I absolutely guarantee that I cannot do that, you have green light on Kivan as well.

If the encounters he reacts to happen in SoA before the Tree of Life/Hells, then please, drop 5 points from P#KivanLove for every 'sex was had' and 3 points for succesful flirting. If sex happens in ToB, please shut down Kiv's romance (P#KivanRomanceInactive = 1).

Cheers, and please, don't feel like you *have* to add anything, just sayin' that I have no objections to it if you need it.

All mod reactions are very welcome, and I will personally enjoy seing Kelsey and Kivan actually saying something, now or in 2027, but just so there're no misunderstandings: reactions included into Romantic Encounters package itself are limited to Bioware four only. Crossmod goes somewhere else - there is Crossmod Banter Pack, there are NPC mods themselves. My reasoning is simple: as of now, you can install RE anytime(after Edwin Romance, seeing how they've made his dream script incompatible with pretty much every mod which touches it), and I think it is best if this pleasant feature stays.

Oh, and it's G8, thank you. Russia is a great country, and all that. (Grrr.)
