Update cmorgan's version, please!

Good news: over a year ago cmorgan has graciously updated Crossmod Banter Pack: https://github.com/cmorganbg/Crossmod_Banter_Pack_for_Baldurs_Gate_II

Bad news: it's not on the main site yet.

It's working, people are downloading it(slowly), but I'd really like to see it on G3 page, and I guess I'm not alone in this - right? So, I'd really like it done. Would any admin and/or Gibberling consider updating it? I am sure many people would be grateful, including me. If there are bugs, people would report it, and those would be corrected - which brings me to my next point below.

As it stands, CBP is currently dead. I would be happy to maintain it, and here's what I'd do:

- I would start a new thread, and accept fully coded submissions for two released mods, coded according to Crossmod Banter Pack naming conventions, and tested in game! If there's a submission from the older thread that's not coded, the modder needs to code it(they coded their NPC mod, after all). That would mean that all updates would be easy and quick.

- I'd still ask for the confirmation from the other party(unless the author has explicitly stated they're okay with it, in which case, no problem, just give me the link).

- I'd need access to Crossmod Banter Pack G3 page to make the updates, because those would need to be fast and regular, unlike RE(I'm working at the new version of RE at the moment, and it's taking weeks, since there's a complicated new component, but with fully coded stuff for CBP that won't be a problem).

If you G3 folks in charge are interested, great. If not, I would ask that you'd consider someone else(someone neutral) to step up as maintainer, because it's a popular mod, and it really needs to be alive.

I do agree and Kulyok is the best possible person to take care of the mod - she is the author of many NPCs herself, an experienced modder and when she says something should be done, she does not change her mind. Let's bring back G3 Crossmod to life, okay?

It would be great if the mod could be maintained regularly. For someone new to take over permanently, I'd prefer to get that approved by the current maintainers.

In the meantime, if anyone wants to prepare a new version, we can upload that. I may get around to packaging cmorgan's version myself, but I've got a bit of a backlog currently.

Update:

I found some posts where berelinde and Kaeloree mentioned they didn't have time to maintain the mod anymore and they were looking for a new maintainer. cmorgan was going to partially take over; putting it on GitHub was a way to ensure anyone could code up contributions. However, he seems to have disappeared as well, so it looks like it's fair game for a new maintainer to step in.

Okay, let me know if I can help in this area(I'd probably choose to upload cmorgan's version first and work from there, so I'd gladly wait for your backlog to clear up, especially since it involves a new version of RE!). Thank you for being involved.

Well, the idea was to to open up things for folks to

1. fork the github materials

2. do their own code and testing and then

3. create a request so that the update could be done through GitHub release with

4. a yearly update of the distro at G3

but that is obviously not happening. So, I'll see what I can do. In the meantime,

https://github.com/cmorganbg/Crossmod_Banter_Pack_for_Baldurs_Gate_II/releases/tag/v14a

v14a is now merged into the master file, so mega-installers that use MASTER for their updates will automatically pick it up and folks can get it directly from the main release link.

I'd happily take on content that is both coded and tested and set up in the format described.

Things that the current build does not do -

1. it is not traified

2. it does not deal with HANDLE_CHARSET for BG2:EE because of #1.

Thanks for the update cmorgan, appreciate it.

And it'd be great if we could get regular updates to the G3 page - if Kulyok is willing and able to do it, then it seems a good chance to get this mod back to regular updates.

If cmorgan maintains the version, that's cool, too!

We just need

- a G3 download, since many people can't use GitHub and are used to the old-fashioned way of mod distribution;

- a new pinned thread in this Crossmod Banter Pack Forum that clearly states that coded+tested submissions are currently accepted and should be sent to (either the thread or the webmail).
