Starting BGII for the First Time

Hey all, I just finished BGEE after having played the original some 15 years ago but never completing it. I'm moving on the BG2 now. I have the Good Old Games version of BG2 Complete (probably should have bought the enhanced edition) and was wondering what would be the must have fixes and mods for it? I'm thinking I would like to at least get the community fix patch and change the resolution a little.

Well the BG2 Fixpack, and the Widescreen mod. If that's all you wish to have. I would recommend the Unfinished Business( that's the BG2 mod, as there's the same kind of mod for BG1, and it's included in the BGEE game, if memory serves). Install them in this order:

BG2Fixpack, Unfinished Business and last the Widescreen mod.

Also what is your characters kit ? Asking cause the BG2 doesn't support Monk, or Sorcerer kits, nor Shaman's. So you can't really use them in the old game, if you intent to ex&import.

I'm starting with a new character I suppose. Is there any advantage to importing my previous character? I was trying to import my final save file but I couldn't find the folder from BG2 to drop it into. I didn't see type of savegame folder in the BG2 dir or in my documents directory. I though, perhaps I need to make a character and save a game first before a savegame folder will be created? Anyways, does BG2EE the same as the BG2 Complete as far as content goes? Specifically I guess I mean does it include the Throne of Bhaal?

Here's an important question, is the BG2 Tweak Pack worth getting on top of the BG2 Fixpack? If so would I install the BG2 Fixpack first and then the Tweakpack? Also, any tips on what resolution to set using the widescreen mod?

Sorry, I misunderstood. The same BWS tool linked above also has a recommended mod selection for BG2.

BG2 Fixpack is always first. Tweak pack adds a lot of convenience. Importing from BGEE to non-EE BG2 seems fraught with peril.

Yes, BG2 complete from GOG includes TOB and so does BG2EE.

Also, any tips on what resolution to set using the widescreen mod?

It depends a bit, on your computer/monitor setup and your eyes.

If you use the computer without as a desktop type without any text enlargement sizes, then you might go with the same resolution as your desktop size is. I have a computer about 24" away and it's a 24" monitor with a 1920x1200 resolution, so I use that... and for me it's fine.

The other options to use, depending on what type of resolution rations it's in:

4:3

640x480, 800x600, 1024x768.

16:9

1280x720, 1360x768, 1600x900, 1920x1080, 2048x1152, 2560x1440, 3840x2160.

16:10

(960x600, 1024x640, 1120x700, 1152x720), 1280x800, 1440x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1200, 2560x1600. The ones in the bracket are display dependent, as they are non standard sizes, and might not display at all.
