I had to re-install everything because v24 had several notable crashes. So I did and used v28 instead. I thought it was my old save that was crashing stuff at first, but no, it happens when I start a new character as well.


I'm playing BGT with the following mods (including Stratagems v28). I tested it before and after installing stratagems and it worked fine before, so that's either the problem or the spark that ignited the fuse.

Are there some known conflicts between stratagems and some other mods that I should be made aware of?

Sorry for double post but I can't find the edit button. That looks like the archive I downloaded, now that I clicked on your link. I'm fairly certain it is, so I doubt that's the problem.

Erhm, ahh, the archive is likely the one you have, Yovaneth likely just didn't update the number in the version flag in the .tp2 code ... So you have the right files ...

Why don't they update the release each time they fix a bug?

This is because the fixes are unofficial.

You don't have the Edit button that's between the Report and MultiQuote -buttons cause your profile is Awaiting Authorisation. Which likely fails sometimes cause the forum software doesn't like to sent the authorization email. You'll get it eventually, if and when the site admins do it manually.

So after attempting to re-install the damn thing with the fixes it still crashed. After subsequently scrapping the whole thing and starting completely over, as soon as I finished downloading JUST the initialization, it STILL crashes. What gives? Also, for some odd reason the terminal doesn't open up when I startup the game. >_>

What "terminal" ?

 

After subsequently scrapping the whole thing and starting completely over, as soon as I finished downloading JUST the initialization, it STILL crashes.

So after you uninstalled, did you also remember to remove the game folder as without that the mods are still technically installed, so you have to remove them to have a clean install, before you reinstall...

I hardly think that means 'case closed.' Incidentally I was having the same problem in a couple recent install attempts.

Step 1: install ~60 mods, ordered as per the BWS guide pdf

Step 2: play-test, everything works fine

Step 3: install SCS v28 with the fixes from this forum

Step 4: CTD upon starting character generation

 

The crashing behavior is identical what my mod briefly caused, described in the Sept. 25 post here:

There, the issue involved editing .cre effects without regard for whether the .cre used v1 headers or v2 headers. (I might have mangled that but hopefully you know what I'm talking about.) The game loads NPCs when you click 'new game' so that's why a bad edit to alora6.cre would cause a crash when creating a new PC.

 

The solution there was to use Camdawg's/Weidu v237's ALTER_EFFECT and DELETE_EFFECT macros rather than directly editing bits in the .cre files. Perhaps something in SCS (or in the fixes) is doing something similar? That's my best guess from the observed behavior.

So instead of breaking the .cre, you used marco that you knew how to use to make the edit...

The index system is hard to guarantee to be working(with more than 1 mod installed)... I have actually released a mod that messed all the .spl files by mismanaging the index value in the files, while seemingly doing what it was meant to. It eventually got fixed with help from a few more eyes in my mod. It's impossible to make a clean cut fix for all the other 500 mods that patch the files, unless you overwrite (every)thing's. And that's generally considered bad, or not a modern weidu approach.

Mods like the SCS, BP and few others are just a lot more susceptible to such a failures (in other mods) and actually fixing the original mods failure actually improves the whole of community ... there has not been a lot of agreements about this fact, just a differentiating options on how to do so the most effectively. :D

Actually mods like the SCS and BP, and the BWProject actually do a good job keeping others in line and allow the finding of problems, and fixes as no one of us can do all the things alone.

Actually I didn't know how to use that macro, that thread was when I first learned about it.

 

Anyway, my point is that either SCS has a bug that causes crashes, or its presence triggers a crash caused by a bug in another mod. PowerOfKaishin and I both had the exact same symptoms, both triggered by installation of SCS' first component (the 'initialize SCS' component.) I'm just trying to do what little I can to track down the source of the CTD. I don't have a weidu.log handy, but here my rough mod list:
