Will Alternatives work on a saved game?

Hello, friends.

I just had a very frustrating afternoon dealing with the Aerie stutter bug which caused me to wind up doing a clean install and reinstalling all my mods and a bunch of other stuff.

I held onto my save game, which was originally started with Alternatives installed, but after all the messing around I had to reinstall Alternatives, as I said.

So now, I'm in the government district, but the cutscene has never happened, and now I'm not sure it ever will.

Is the mod supposed to work retroactively on a saved game where the player has not allied with any factions?

If I'm screwed, is there a way to force the cutscene and the paladin questgiver spawn?

Thanks.

Yes, but if you've installed and reinstalled a bunch of times, some of the scripts might have gotten scrambled.

First of all, have Valen and Brus made their appearances? Entering the Gov't Dist before that happens won't start the cutscene. If you *have* had Valen and Brus spawn, and if you know how to use the CLUA console, you could try leaving the Gov't District, and then, while still outside the district, open the console and type in the following.

CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("B!Alternatives","GLOBAL",0)

Now try reentering the Government District.

Let me know how you make out. Depending on how badly screwed up the business with Valen and Brus is, it might be necessary to set two vanilla game variables, but that isn't too tough, either.

Berelinde, wow, you responded fast! I wasn't expecting to get the attention of the author herself the same night I posted!

I'm happy to report that I just got the correct cutscene and visit from the messenger.

Almost as soon as I went back into my game after posting this, I got the visit from Valen telling me to go meet Bodhi, and that's the event that triggered the Alternatives mod.

I guess I was a little earlier in this save game than I had thought.

In case it helps anyone, I may have caused the Valen event to trigger by going back to the Slums and speaking to Galen Bayle again. He didn't have anything new to say, but as soon as I exited his house after talking to him for the second time, a whole bunch of events triggered all at once - Valen asking me to meet Bodhi, Brus telling me that Galen wanted to "sweeten the deal", and the initial events of the Alternatives mod.

P.S. - I just linked from your signature and made the connection - I'm a huge Gavin fan! Since you seem to still be active in BG, how about creating a Gavin continuation mod for BG2? I absolutely LOVE that guy, and I miss him terribly in BG2!

Also, did anyone ever finish the Ajantis mod out of beta form? I'm also a huge AJ fan!

"Why did it have to be SPIDERS!?" "Damn my clumsiness!"

Gavin for BG2 is already out, and available from G3. There's a thread on the forum for him, but you can only get to his project page from the main site page or from the downloads page. :)

Also, I'm pleased to report that Ajantis is out, too, and as lovable as ever. The mod is hosted at Rosenranken.org, but you can find the English language support thread for it at G3 here.

Hopefully, the rest of your game will go a little smoother after what must have been a very frustrating afternoon.
