Immortal Trolls

OK after I get teleported out of that pet shop that sold Boo I am teleported to the Druid Grove Area. 3 trolls attack and almost always one of them is immortal and will not die no matter what. I tried everything. I tried to pull off all my fighters and wait a bit then have 1 guy attack. I fired tons of acid arrows, flame arrows, minute meteors, anything. But to no avail. I reload the game and still it is the same. It seems odd but a lot of the trolls I attack are behaving this way. A lot of Trolls will stay at near death for a very very long time without falling. This only seems to happen mostly when all my characters are focusing 1 troll. I know about hitting them too hard and too often but I don't know limit myself enough that their regeneration does not hinder this. Inexplicably they might die after suffering hundreds of damage in the near death state. Perhaps some sort of spell or weapon is causing this and when it misses or fails it lets them die? Only thing that comes to mind are those morning stars/maces I am dual wielding on Minsc that cause sleep and poison on failed save.

My party is not that strong. Mostly level 11 or so.

I don't know what exactly you've been told about "hitting them too hard and too often" but it seems to me that you might just be making the mistake of standing too close to the troll. I know this shouldn't be a factor but I too have experienced exactly the same mysterious problem you cite but discovered that the reason the troll doesn't drop is that you are standing too close to it. Once you've clouted it down to 'near death' just step away from it. As long as you remain in melee distance, the troll can continue to fight no matter what you dish out to it. Sometimes you may need to step away a second time because if the troll follows you and you don't retreat again, it will remain in the 'immortality zone' that standing very close to it can create.

I believe this was an intended behaviour of trolls (as opposed to a bug) because I got some special edition bonus package with my disks which included some playing card style information cards one of which has the De'Arnise Captain (Cernick?) commenting on how trolls are particularly deadly in combat because they're often "too stupid to realise when they're dead" and thus able to continue fighting long after they should have fallen.

Sounds logical.

I've had the same behavior with the trolls (not that they are unkillable, but sometimes it tooks awhile) and this could be a great explanation for that, but I don't know if BioWare has implemented this...

No. The behavior is just funk with getting the scripts to process, and this issue can also occur with other "HP1" creatures (like the NPCs who are supposed to dialogue after losing too much HP). If you sit there and keep smacking them, they can get stuck just trying to hit you back instead of executing the new script actions.

I believe the information card is just referring to the expected troll behavior (they should be dead, but they don't actually die -- they fall down and regenerate unless "killed" for real with fire or acid damage).
