Error installing 'change magically created weapons to zero weight' component

Hi,

 

I was just installing the tweak pack for BG2 (GOG version). I encountered an error when installing the component mentioned in the title, as follows:

 

 

ERROR: Failure("CDPP27.ITM: read out of bounds")

 

I redid the installation from a fresh backup to see which mods affected the file. It appears to be added by the tweak pack component 'wear multiple protection items > P&P restrictions' and not further modified. The error then occurs when installing the component in the title.

The odd thing is that I previously (as in yesterday) had SCS installed before the tweak pack, and had no errors at all, even though I used the same components.

 

As a final test, I restored to a fresh installation and only installed the tweakpack. I only installed the components mentioned above (protection items + zero weight items). There were no errors. In fact there was no file CDPP27.itm created at all! Only the files numbering 7-14 were created, whereas previously there were in addition numbers 24-27.

 

Does anyone know what has gone wrong here?

 

edit: What I've done now is install the tweak pack before SCS, including the 'zero weight' component but excluding 'protection items'. Then install SCS as normal, and install 'protection items' afterwards. That way I get no errors, but I have no idea what the actual problem is.

The cdpp##.itm files created by this component are clones of other items in the game. Finding the original item may help determine if there was something wrong with the file before the cloning or not.

 

If you can still reproduce the problem, opening cdpnp.2da in the override folder will show you an array where original items are matched to their clones.

Btw, this is from the installation order I mentioned in my edit, which produced no errors. Not sure if that makes a difference.

 

From a google search it seems like the file might come from the Wheels of Prophecy mod by DavidW (which makes sense given the dw prefix).

 

Let me know if I can do any further investigating. I'm probably going to do a fresh installation anyway (the normal backup and restore procedure doesn't seem to work properly on a GOG installation, which I realised too late).

You could make a --change-log from the "dw#melri.itm" file, and the "cdpp27.itm" -file, this will allow other to reproduce the exact install order and allow you to upload the produced files in a .zip archive so other people can take a look on what went wrong.

PS, if you use the .zip archive in the link, do not overwrite the weidu.exe in the game folder with the one in the archive, it's very old, and doing so will just show that you need to use the version all the other mods use(in their setup-*modname*.exe's).

Right, so I did my reinstall (I've now entered into a kind of Weidu zen state) and reproduced the error message.

 

To reiterate, it occurs after installing Wheels of Prophecy > tweakpack component 'wear multiple protection items (P&P rules)' > tweakpack component 'make all magical items zero weight' (this component fails). There are other mods in between but I think this is the relevant chain of events. I can upload my Weidu log if necessary.

And because I was curious, I downloaded Near Infinity to take a look at the itm files.

 

The only difference I noticed is that the name and description of the non-error item was replaced by seemingly random dialogue.

 

The error-message version appeared to have the correct name and description. Seems counter-intuitive, but then again I have no idea what I'm doing.

 

The item, by the way, is 'Melissan's Ring of Wizardry'.

As a temporary workaround, it seems that installing the 'zero weight' component before 'protection items' (as opposed to their default order) seems to result in a correct item file with no errors reported.

It appears that this component may be corrupting the file. I'll look into it.
