Fullplate and Packing Steel

Which game and which edition(is it the EE or not) would you like to install this mod onto? I ask cause there should be a version for the EE games, but it's on some user, and we need to know if you want that.

It would be the nonEE trilogy using BWS.

The forum at G3 hasn't been used in 5 years or so, but reading through some of the posts I saw a few issues people were having at the time.

1- someone was talking about med armor not being balanced.

2- someone else mentioned being nicked to death by a pack of gibbering while wearing fullplate.

I personally like the idea of armor either absorbing damage or being light enough to avoid hits. But I'm not sure committing to this system for a entire mega-install will be satisfying for all levels and all armor found (mod armor vrs armor in original game).

It's balanced for as long as you set the values yourself. Values used in the original will indeed break your game. There are afaik three more mods which add phys res to armor - Refinements, Item Revisions and YARAS; so perhaps you might find some of these more to your liking.

Figures, I just finnished my mega install (8 hours). Im not understanding what you said, "Set the values yourself". In Big World Setup it only gave me 3 drop down choices.

In game I noticed all the armor seem to have a worse AC value then previously and one doesnt make any sense. Imoen for example is AC4 when wearing Leather and AC5 when wearing Studded Leather. The percentages for resistance are about the same so Im assuming Dex bonus it 1 worse when wearing Studded.

Could you explain "set the values yourself"?

There is a file (armorlist or something) in the mod folder, where you can edit the values/penalties etc. in a form of a table with numeric values.

Ofc, this only takes effect before you actually install the mod.

fullplate/thebiglist.txt ... you want to open the file with Notepad++, so you can read the file as a table and not as a spalling text as it will be very confusing with that. The file was not made to be opened with the regular Notepad, as it can't see the Mac-like line end that the file has.

Thanks I was able to open it with Word Pad, there is another folder named "Spoilers Fullplate" that can be used to explain what colums are what. In case anyone else reading this wants to know.

Ok, I see now. Now I would like your opinion on what needs to be modified. It looks to me over all AC's have changed so for 3 examples.....

+4 Leather Armor is AC 0 and has low percentage of damage absorbtion.

+4 Chainmail is AC 4 and has dubble the percentage of leathers' dmg absorb

+4 Plate is AC 5 and has dubble chains dmg absorb.

So at higher levels, like level 4 and up basically, everything hits chain and plate wearers and does a little damage each time.....if Im understanding this correctly. Where as light armor wearers are basically the only ones who have a chance to actually be missed....at higher levels.

Also two more questions....

First- Armor that isnt on the list, like magic armor that was added by another mod.( I see a lot of armors from other mods are already in the "Big List")...can I assume it will have the original "out of the box" rules?

Second- If I modify everything do I need to reinstall the whole mega BWS? Of can I just install this Mod again? If I can just install this mod over the mega installation....will my saved games be up to date?

If an armor isn't on the list, it won't be modified.

As for BWS, I don't know.

My advice, since FPPS is generally installed so close to the end of the install (even after SCS and aTweaks, I believe), is to not touch BWS, find setup-fullplate.exe in your game folder (or make one from a current version of Weidu), run it manually, and uninstall the mod. Find and look at your weidu.log, and make sure FPPS is in fact very close to the bottom, lower than SCS.

(Hopefully this doesn't break your install, though no promises since BWS probably biffs a ton of stuff automatically... make a backup before doing this!)

Then, once everything is done uninstalling and reinstalling, edit thebiglist.txt to your liking. You really probably shouldn't use Wordpad, it might add invisible formatting that breaks the file. Download Notepad++ or CONtext, they are both free and they don't do that sort of thing. Once you have finished editing the file, run setup-fullplate.exe again and install it manually, as your last mod.

If you want to check out an alternative that can also work as the last mod in your order, look at YARAS (Yet Another Revised Armor System), the first component of my Scales of Balance mod:

https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/33657/mod-scales-of-balance-a-post-hac-tweak-mod/p1

It's similar to FPPS, the main technical difference is that it doesn't use a list of armors, so all armors should be captured and modified. Another difference is that FPPS allows casting in armor with a chance of spell failure, while YARAS applies casting speed penalties instead. It is similarly very configurable - to get a sense of how it can be adapted to your preferences, check out the .ini file here:

https://github.com/UnearthedArcana/Scales_of_Balance/blob/master/scales_of_balance/ini/YARAS.ini

To use this instead, uninstall FPPS as described above, and simply install YARAS afterward.

This is not how you do it in BWS, if you want to customize the FPPS install, I suggest that you do pick the FPPS in the install list the first time...and then after you get clear to install the mods(aka there's no mod conflicts), you go back a few steps with already picked mods and remove the FPPS from the install, let the BWS install the rest of the mods, and then you manually install the FPPS as the last mod, this won't have problems with the setup-files either as weidu.exe it carries will be autoupdated and that's that. The armor .itm files won't be biffed, but that's only a 1 out of a 100 000 000 causes of slowness. Same thing with YARAS... the .itm files won't effect the speed the game loads files, but if you uninstall the Generalized biffing, you'll be waiting for HOURS for it to complete. Both ways, install-uninstall-reinstall, that's BAD.

This MOD looks awesome, thank you. After reading the "read me" it seems I can indeed just uninstall FullPlate, it is indeed near the bottom of my install with only these listed after...

TB#Tweaks

AURORA

POLYTWEAK

LEVEL1NPCS

BP-BALANCER

EET_TWEAKS

BG1NPCBEG

SENTRIZEAL_AA_PACK

NSCPORTRAITS

PAINTBG

BINFINITYSOUNDS

AREA_PATCHER

ITEM_PATCHER

LOLFIXER

I have to say I didnt remember seeing this SoB mod when I was picking Mods in the BWS, so I just re-opened the BWS instalation program and see it now listed in BG2 Rules, Tweaks, and Spells section. It was totally unchecked and I probably figured there was a reason with conflcts. I now see there are very few conflicts and I dont even see BG2_Tweaks as a choice at all, and I couldnt find it in my WeiDU-Notepad either, so I think I am safe to install the following.

100- Armor

102- Functional Weapon Tweaks

103- Light Heavy Weapon Distinctions

121- Weapon Prof Overhaul (hoping I dont have something else already)

122- Weapon Prof System

200- Stat Bonus (this is awesome, makes tombs more valuable for anyone)

After Im done writting this I will just try to install this over my current installation, after removing FullPlate. Im looking to avoid 7-9 hours of reinstalling. Guessing I'll have to start a new game based on the repicking of stats and proficiencies.

I'll post the results when I know more, I can see this thread being useful for others.

It's today called Tweaks Anniversary, or CD_Tweaks... ac CamDawg remade it as his image, aka you can install it in nearly all Infinity Engine games.

You posted just in the nick of time, thank you!!

Fullplate took about a hour to uninstall. After looking at my install again there were a few compatibilty issues so I only installed.

100- Armor

102-103 Weapon

200- Stat Bonuses

Everything is working, so far as I can see, even my saved games are modified with their new armor and character stats. This armor system seems to be better then FullPlate in that it covers all armor in the game without worring about new armor added from other MODs.

Thank You for everyones help, your all awesome. Now to play through a whole game to see if everything is indeed working.
