BGQE v10: Bug Thread

Please post any bugs or typos here. Make sure to specifiy the game you are playing (BG1, Tutu, BGT, or BG:EE) and which version of the mod (Windows, Mac, Linux).
If possible, please post your WeiDU.log so I can see which other mods were installed.

OK... *sigh*... what is the recommended way to update? I tried using my intuition and following on screen instructions, already had v9.2 installed.

 

But even just going thru the "Ask me for everything" path, and selecting "No change" for almost everything, spawns a long process where every single other mod I have installed uninstalls/re-installs, using automated script routines I have no control over. And unfortunately, replete with lots of errors now. I saw a lot of "NOT INSTALLED DUE TO ERRORS" and several warnings in my Dos window (all related to Unfinished Business).

 

The most recent Debug file for this mod lists a ton of mentions of things like "[bg1ub/backup/30/UNSETSTR.30] SET_STRING uninstall info not found"

as well as numerous lines containing things like:

Unable to Unlink [override/spell.ids.bgqe.2.marker]: Unix.Unix_error(20, "unlink", "override/spell.ids.bgqe.2.marker")

Unable to Unlink [override/spell.ids.bg1npc.tp2.200.marker]: Unix.Unix_error(20, "unlink", "override/spell.ids.bg1npc.tp2.200.marker")

etc.

 

Is any of this normal, since I'm on Windows using a Steam install of BGEE? Did I, uh... download the wrong version? I swear I dl'ed Windows, but maybe this site's version isn't BGEE/Steam compatible.

 

I'm really worried I've borked my entire install, all because I was trying to fix a single bug. I actually like it better if I can surgically go into EE Keeper or NI and tweak stuff manually (assuming I know the steps...).

I can email you the DEBUG file, but what is most concerning is the 7 now-uninstalled UB components. Most seem to be either missing @ translations of some sort (leading to some kind of missing Chitin.key corruption?) and bad pathing where UB has files in subfolders (for bgee, bgt, tutu etc) but the patch process is meant for a straight copy of BG.

Last post for now. I wonder if I messed this up by using the Beamdog site's version of UB, which is v14 - the G3 version is v13, looks like. They were just getting around to updating UB to work with the latest BGEE, so that's the version I went for, and it installed seamlessly at the time.

 

If I can somehow simply re-install an older version of QE, and re-install UB, please let me know. I can live with a few minor bugs, until the scripts get sync'ed again. I know this is hard work, I appreciate it and all. I just should know better than to install patches of any sort mid-game.

Jastey - This is an issue with BG1UB. The ALWAYS section had a sub-section that was blocked if a variable from the g3_[GAME]_cpmvars.tpa file was declared (old code). Well, since BGQE declared it, the section wasn't processing, and well, that messed everything up.

 

I'll get a fix for BG1UB posted ASAP. Until then, manually uninstall BG1UB before updating any other mods, then reinstall.

DuchessOfKvetch, it is normal that all mods installed after a mod are first uninstalled if this mod is uninstalled, as the install order should be kept constant. If you need a work-around for the Leave Party glitch, you could also reinstall v9.2 and manually set "CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("C#BGQE_NPCReactions","GLOBAL",1)" before you meet the angry family, then set it to "0" again to see the NPC reactions for the other quests. Sorry for the mess.

AstroBryGuy: I use a .mrk file for that, if put into the mod folder it also doesn't increase the override.

I ended up rolling things back to v9.2 for now, but I replaced the folder in its entirety rather than doing an overwrite.

 

I did a compare of the v9 and v10 folders, and there are a lot of things different (I presume intentionally?)- for example, the "tra" folders are no longer structured the same. Given that a number of the debug errors were related to missing translation files, I thought I had the wrong copy of the mod, one made for non-BGEE people.

 

Another example are the way that "dialogues" quest subfolders no longer have as many files. Could all be just part of a major cleanup, I guess! Normally I do not dig around unless I run into something that perplexes me.

 

Anyway these file structure diffs might be enuf to cause some issues if you just copy the new version's folder straight on top of the other one. This is part of what I was inquiring about with regard to doing a "clean update". What is the expected process?

Uninstall the old version, then remove the folder * exe content before copying the new version back into the install directory?

Or is it usually "safe" to overwrite everything, at the risk of leaving behind a lot of orphan files no longer used by the new code?

For update of a mod in an existing game install, you need to fully uninstall the old Version, remove the mod folder and the setup.exe, then copy the new mod folder and exe into the game folder and install the new mod version. Never just replace the current mod folder or copy it oder, it does'nt work that way, unfortunately (the update is not that smart, it is just a new mod version.)

Yes, the mod went through a heavy clean-up, hopefully for the better..

 

EDIT: Hm, it *might* work if you copy the New Version over and then do deinstall and reinstall, as long as you have the install info in the backup folder untouched (should be, as the new mod version doesn't have a backup folder yet, which is made by the install), and all relevant files get replaced with the newer version. Unrelevant files are no problem, since they get ignored. So, yes, this could actually work, but I would not recommend it.

AstroBryGuy identified your Problem to result from bg1ub, so maybe waiting for the new version there for a full update makes sense. Bg1ub v14 is the right one to take, as it not only fixes bugs but also has BG:EE compatibility.

DuchessOfKvetch, it is normal that all mods installed after a mod are first uninstalled if this mod is uninstalled, as the install order should be kept constant. If you need a work-around for the Leave Party glitch, you could also reinstall v9.2 and manually set "CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("C#BGQE_NPCReactions","GLOBAL",1)" before you meet the angry family, then set it to "0" again to see the NPC reactions for the other quests. Sorry for the mess.

AstroBryGuy: I use a .mrk file for that, if put into the mod folder it also doesn't increase the override.

 

I took a look at the code section and the only things it was doing was loading the cpmvars, the rr_addvars, and compiling EXTRA_TEMP.tra. I'll just let it run every time.

I am not sure whether you are talking about bg1ub or bgqe. The reading of the OUTER_SPRINT variables should be done every time, yes. Things like converting ANSI text to utf-8 should only be done once, or the back up folder will increase in size every time a mod component gets installed / deinstalled.

If there is a bug in bgqe, let me know.
