YOUNGER SISTER:

Name: Keli

Race: Tiefling

Alignment: Neutral Good

Class: Cleric - Silverstar of Selune

STR: 14

DEX: 17

CON: 15

INT: 10

WIS: 18

CHR: 14

Keli is approximately 17 years old and was born and raised in the Selunite temple-city of Minsor Vale. She knows little of her background as a Tiefling. Keli began her studies as a cleric of Selune at a very young age, eventually becoming a Silverstar. She can be quite shy and reserved around others due to her experiences with others as a child. True to the nature of Selunites, she has little tolerance for slavery or bigotry. Around Inara, Keli can be willful and argumentative, but the love she has for her sister is quite obvious.

ELDER SISTER:

Name: Inara

Race: Tiefling

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Class: Thief - Swashbuckler

STR: 16

DEX: 19

CON: 15

INT: 13

WIS: 10

CHR: 16

Inara is in her mid- to late-20s and was born in the planar city Sigil, where she spent her early childhood before traveling to Minsor Vale with her pregnant mother. She is wild, independent and spirited, with a dark humor and biting wit. She has rare pensive moments, during which she is somewhat unapproachable. Inara left home early to travel Faerun, often spending time in lively dock cities or at sea, plying the rogue's trade and breaking hearts and faces. She visited Minsor Vale sporadically, though she calls no place 'home.' Inara enjoys conversation, but is evasive about certain subjects on her past. She is generally irreverent, though not because she is thoughtless. Inara chooses carefully what incites her passion. Guarding her sister Keli is one of those.

I got a person I know who has pretty extensive knowledge of the planescape setting to take a look at the proposals for this mod and got some responses that may help you refine these interesting npcs.

QuestionWhat do you think about these two?

Answer: "The older one uses too much slang.", Sieth notes. "She's like a prime that comes to Sigil for half a year and then suddenly thinks they're a planewalker. Her conversation seems forced, and she reminds me of that annoying brat from that computer game."

(Mikka waves around a Planescape: Torment box.)

"The younger's not bad looking, but what's she decended from, with those horns and spots? A fiendish dire giraffee? And how did she get accepted in to a church of Selene, with so many assimar's spoiling for a chance to wipe out a 'tainted' one?"

"You cheer up notably when you are insulting others.", Kara notes. Sieth ignores her, so she just shrugs and smiles, forcing the issues from the previous question out of her mind. "They seem... interesting. It is always good to meet tifelings that have not... ah... 'taken' to the heritage in them. It is extremely hard... I know I have had trouble 'staying' on the path I chose, so I have to commend them for that. Otherwise, though... neither of their personalities clicks to me. I cannot see myself becoming close to either of them."

"As for pointers..." Sieth looks thoughtful. "...all Sigilites are jaded. Even the naivest assimon becomes cynical after spending too much time there."

"Can someone be naive and jaded?".

Sieth glowers at her before continuing. "You have to be; even the rich work hard, and die young. The water contains portals to the plane of ooze, and the air portals to Gehenna. The smog spreads in to all wards, as there's no where else for it to go. There's no place for honesty, as even children have to betray to survive. You haven't lived till you watch a pair of seven year olds beat their mother to unconciousness and then sell her to some convining Baatezu."

Kara winces. "You are overexagerating."

"Not really." Sieth shrugs. "Remember what happened in Sigil when the Lady gave an order for fifteen factions?"

"I have heard about it. All portals were sealed off, and the people effectively wiped more then two thirds of the population of the city out, turning on themselves in a mix of fanaticism and panic." Kara sighs. "That was one time, though. The rest of the time, Sigil has been how it always has been- the city of doors. Perhaps the only place in the multiuniverse where you can find a fiend and a celestial drinking together."

"While ripping up a flier for the 'Glorious Baatezu Army'."

Hope this helps.

Actually, having looked at the sisters bios in a bit more detail, it seems like they aren't quite the transplanted natives of Sigil that I thought they were at first glance. As such you can definately get away with more of the

She's like a prime that comes to Sigil for half a year and then suddenly thinks they're a planewalker.
:D

Anyways, I hope this little vinegrette got the designers thinking on how to get their characters even more in character.

Actually I was wondering about the priest of Selune thing too. Now I know from very little to nothing of FR deities , but I was really surprised the Keli was a priest of Selune and apparently her mum too. Yes Selune is among other things a goddess of good and neutral lycantrops and thus obviously quite open minded and tolerant.

And wasn't tolerance a big issue for Selune too? Yet so it is to many real churches (in theory), but still there is loads of discrimination around. Would a person that was - if not a half-demon - at least part of demon really be accepted? And I mean accepted by the other worshippers? Even if she would be accepted by the goddess that does not mean that her other worshippers would agree as it is - I believe - highly unlikely that Selune herself would herself intervene and say that it's okay to be demonic if you're nice at the same time.

I'm not really saying that you should change it, but perhaps I would ask bit more explanation around the issue. :D Especially since I know so little about Selune and her worshipers. However I too have heard of the Aasimars on a holly mission to clear any fiendish taint.

A particularly tolerant and respected high-preist might be a useful tool in that regard. Of course, the fact that Keli gets her spells at all might solve a few arguments, since the Goddess obviously doesn't care about her blood. :D

Or cause more distress. The line between holy powers and blasphemous witchcraft is thin at best. :D But I'm not trying to start argument here, so if you guys say that it's okay, then it's okay.

At the moment I'm compiling a major backstory and character profiles document for my two lovely writers. Once we've ironed it out (not literally) and finally settled on something that works (taking into account changes based on new information), then I should be able to give a decent answer to your questions (and will probably start a FAQ'n'IAQ - pronounced fakunak).

Heya,

Actually, sorry to butt in here, but... No it's not.

Gods really don't like it when other powers impersonate them - they might not intervene directly, but they wouldn't tollerate it for long.

The fact that Keli is getting her spells is a sign of the goddess's favour. Wizards and sorcerers and their ilk just cannot cast divine spells except by way of Wish and Limited Wish (and both of those spells actually require a deity's intervention)...

Anyone casting divine spells is getting them from a power who can grant them... (Yes, very powerful demons and devils can grant spells, but they wouldn't dare to obfuscate that by pretending to be another deity - that's just asking for trouble!)

The fact that she can walk on Hallowed Ground at all, is a very good sign. :D

Yes, you're right especially about walking in the church protected by the goddess. :D

But something that is good to keep in mind that while *we* have access to all sorts of material giving us a detailed info in the workings of the realms, the people - characters of the story - don't. They know only what they have learned in their fictional lives. In some areas they might know more than us, but in many other areas they know less.

So, the question is: do they (other followers of Selune) know that it's unwise to a even powerful demon to grant powers pretending to coming from a real goddess? Apparently it seems that they do. But I would be surprised if Keli could run around the realms claiming to be true cleric of Selune and no-one would question it.

With Keli, and this will probably be included in her biography, the thing is she has basically been raised by the clerics of Selune in Minsor Vale. It is true that a Tiefling is more likely to become a follower of Shar, if they are going to worship any Prime deity. There is a lot more to Keli's background than we've told here.
