Non-Invincible Characters Option

Recommended Posts

Thank you for this and many other mods but I have a question.

Is it possible to remove the invincible characters item (on the character) or fix (in the mod)?

I know the game makers wanted certain characters to be unkillable to keep the plot going. But I don't want that. If I break the story I want to be able to break it on that save.

More important, there is NO need for some of these characters to be invincible. If I want to kill Renal Bloodscalp and loot the shadow thieves front room before joining Bodhi that does not break the plot.

I can see why a powerful bodyguard or assasin may appear to attack me if I attack Renal Bloodscalp. But he does not need to be invincible and should not be IMO.

So is there a way to apply certain fixes in the fixpack but not others? (specifically the one making invincible characters even more invincible)

Thanks.

Do it yourself. Make a copy of amul02.itm - call that copy Minhp1.itm - put the new item into your game/override folder.

For some creatures you maybe need to find another item in their equipment, some have others than Minhp1, but that one is the most widely used.

There's difference between plot armor and technical requirements to prevent something from collapsing. I.e. you can kill Elhan in Suldanessellar just fine (via INT drain in mindflayer form), it won't affect the game. Or you can kill someone and then they'll mysteriously resurrect themselves and show up later. Or take your Renal Bloodscalp example. And then there're instances where removing immortality may lock you in a cutscene mode and you'll have to exit the game process via task manager.

To make that clear - nobody will put such stuff into fixpack. This would make fixpack incompatible with all mods in all games.

This is a private option for someone who wants to ruin the own game. I am an evil person, I give him the knife to cut himself...

Maybe this can be a cure in the end.

Thank you for the info, I take it the invulnerability item is usually an amulet then? Should I do this before or after adding any mods or is it just not likely to matter?

I have killed Renal Bloodscalp and the invulnerable assassin that pops up when you attack him without it messing up the game

Also I look at this as another error on the game maker's part as it would actually fit inside part of the storyline options. Some of the things the fixpack corrects are also other little things the developers put in wrong. These are little things that don't break the game when they occur but are still annoying to those who know the game has things wrong-such as inaccurate alignments for minor characters.

You can do that after you finished the whole installation. That way you make sure it is not overwritten. Like I said earlier, zje amulet catches many cases but not all. If someone uses another item, you need to identify that separately and apply a similar trick. This can be done anytime during gameplay, so no big issue.

Hmm.. Thanks again for the suggestion..

Question though, where is the override folder? I'm looking at the contents of BG2:EE (Mac version) and I don't see one.

In windows there is BG2EE/override.

No idea about Mac.
