protection against magic and sunray

Recommended Posts

Reported by Memnoch ;)

1- Protection against magic (scrl07) should make the player inmune to dragon breath, comet and energy blades. (and probably every HLA spell added by ToB).

2- Sunray should eliminate or reduce the magic level (from +2 to +1, or from +1 to disintegration) of every drow weapon and drow armor from friends or foes alike.

I suppose you can add a saving throw, but I personally wouldnt do it.

Good luck scripting that...

I would kind of debate the immunity to dragon breath, since while dragons are magical creatures, the (2nd, not sure about 3rd) edition monster manuals don't count dragon's breath as magical. Except for some of the fruiter dragon types, of course.

Well, looks like I'll be around for a while, so I decided to register. Anyway, I decided to try this out: started a ToB-only game with a sorcerer I already made, cheated her up to 3M XP and gave her a ProMagic scroll via ShadowKeeper, and went against Illasera three times, using a different HLA spell each time. As soon as the battle with her started, I cast a Time Stop, used the ProMagic scroll on 'sera, and tried the different spells. Here's what I found:

  • Dragon's Breath: ProMagic doesn't stop it; 'sera got roasted through it.
  • Melf's Minute Meteors: ProMagic blocked the fire damage, but not the physical damage. Same story with Energy Blades' electrical damage.
  • Comet: ProMagic blocked the damage. I don't know if the knockdown got through, but 'sera saved against both.

Although, I guess I should mention that this is on a bog-standard ToB install with the official patch: no mods, no Fixpack (want to use the Multi-Install Tool to make a separate install, mainly to make rebuilding an EasyTutu install easier, but it doesn't want to work for some reason).

Fixpack should only make one difference in your test, and that's allowing the fire damage to occur (part of the power level fixes).

Y'mean with the meteors? Remember, I got the same result with the Energy Blades (elemental damage was blocked, physical damage got through).

I should probably read posts completely before responding. Yes, the elemental damage should also work.
