Shouts Used in Smaller Areas

Is there anyway to limit the respondents to a "shout" in an area? I just came into Cloakwood Mine level 2 and subsequently ended up battling every hostile creature in the 1st corridor before being able to explore the area. Hareishan ended up rushing from the room he was in to the room with the storage containers so it ended up no being much of a battle due to a few well placed fireballs. In a confined level like that, how difficult would it be to use different shouts different groups of hostiles so every critter doesn't go rushing to their doom?

Similar issue in AR8602 for BGT where IRON3.cre and IRON11.cre are supposed to be neutral when you meet them and then go hostile if you give the wrong answer, but their _SHOUT.BCS in the override script causes them to be hostile upon meeting them. They still give the appropriate dialog before they fall, however... :rolleyes:

Is there anyway to limit the respondents to a "shout" in an area? I just came into Cloakwood Mine level 2 and subsequently ended up battling every hostile creature in the 1st corridor before being able to explore the area.
If it's just an area or two, there are ways.

One way would involves overwriting the script with a new one by the area script and specified creatures...

The other would make the general shout area smaller... DavidW, how large is it by the way? As it should be the visual range, and no larger... and I think this was tweaked a little too large...

And yet another would put the creatures in nice little boxed on the area so they won't hear each others...

 

Now, the question comes, which is the easiest, and best. I would say tweaking the area impact of the shout command... but that's just me.

Edit: the command in my Tutu game was: 99 if the target is innocent neutral(civilian), and 57 if it's GOODCUTOFF which means it's monsters.

 

It might be a little too large, as the visual range should be about 30-35 from the creature.

I had the same problem in an EasyTutu game without SCS installed. So the problem is within TuTu and not SCS. I worked on a solution at the time. The following code SHOULD work, but it I never got to test every single creature adjusted. However, the area you mentioned was the same area that spurred me to create this and everything worked out just fine....

Feel free to test it. This is just tp2 component code, so you'll need to either create a tp2 header and paste this under it OR add this at the end of another mod.

It's more likely a problem of both SCS and TuTu then: I had the same "issue" with a BGT+SCS game, while in Vanilla BGT Hareishan waits for the player in her room in cloackwood mines.

I found that behavior realistic, but on the other hand it indeed cuts the challenge.

The shout issue instead is known, I think DavidW was already working on that..?

 

My vote would go for shrinking a bit the area shouts cover, both to solve the Hareishan issue and also thinking about mods that make the whole spawn points activate on area enter (with the current shout size probably the whole area would go for the player instantly), namely BGSpawns if melkor_morgoth75 will opt for that solution.

I resurrect this thread because I have experienced the same problem when playing BGT with SCS installed.

 

plainab has kindly offered code to fix the issue, as you can see, but I did not have the chance to test it myself yet and neither it seems like anyone bothered to do it before me and give feedback, despite this being an over 7 years old thread!

 

It would be nice if v31 did not have this old problem anymore. :)

PS - I take also the opportunity to ask you about Virtue - since it seems this mod needs its own SHOUTs to work correctly and overwrites the existing ones (if I understand correctly), should it be installed after SCS?

Actually, if you read the two post, you'll detect that Salk reposted in the topic just to get DavidW to respond, as he didn't edit the second nor the first post. Which is "not helpful". After all DavidW needs to read about 10 000 posts, and go through all his mod to find things, and only has limited time to respond to all of them.

The reason I asked a second time (and not the day after, but after 2 weeks of silence) was simply because I thought DavidW might have missed my first post, since I did not get any kind of reply and he usually does not ignore reports of this kind.

 

It is not that I was demanding for a solution/fix to a SCS problem that has anyway been reported and never addressed since 2009, only if something was going to be done about it before v31 is out.
