Crash bug due to nonexistent animation?

Hi, when I battle certain creatures, I get a game crash and this message:

 

An assertion failed in ChVidImage.cpp at line number 1910.

 

The online communities say this is due to the game trying to display a nonexistent animation, or something. How do I fix this?!

These are the circumstances where I can reproduce this bug (so far):

 

-when the fire elemental "guardian" is summoned at the top-right of firkraag's big dungeon (mask of king strohm mini-quest)

-facing the chaos beast for the final druid stronghold encounter

 

The second one makes sense to me, because that guy randomly shifts avatars. I.e. if I can kill it quickly enough and also get lucky, the bugged/nonexistent avatar/animation doesn't get used, and I can complete the druid stronghold. What sucks is, I can't complete the firkraag maze mini-quest. What I'd like to know is, which one is the corrupt or nonexistent file that causes the crash, and how do I tell the game to stop trying to call it? Thanks :)

Np. Unfortunately, you can't. Weidu will un-install everything you installed after it....Your safest bet would be a clean install from zero. :(

 

I take it, that spell revisions improved hla summons is more stable?

Well, you won't get CTDs. :D 1pp only changes graphics, it doesn't alter statistics of summoned creatures.

I mentioned this at 1pp forums ages ago. It has nothing to do with SCS, it's 1PP "Fixed animations for Solars and Elementals". Oddly enough, I can install this and it doesn't crash my game anymore.
Can we narrow it down a bit? Evidently, it has to do with elementals rather than solars... is it a particular elemental animation (fire elemental)?

I wish I could. Last CTD I got due to this component was more than half a year ago. Since then, I've read that people didn't have crashes, oddly enough, neither did I. Iirc, the Fire Elemental which guards Mask of King Strohm always caused CTD, but I don't think the others did. Solars never caused ctd for me, only the Guardian creature.

I've got BGT and most of the same mods installed and also have this error.

 

It seems to be directly related to the fire elemental summons. All others work fine.

 

Through IE I've discovered that:

 

The monster fire elementals enemies (that seem to use the same animation) don't have this error.

The spell summons do have this error.

Using IE: Copied the non-summons fire elementals as templates and edited them as per the summons. Everything works now.

 

Somehow the summons' CREs must have been corrupted, even though they use the same animations as the non-summons. Although, simply changing the animation worked for the elder fire elemental model.

I eventually started tweaking other things after another image crash (a spell or a creature, I forget).

 

*Turning on 3D animation in BG options seems to solve everything, including fire elemental crashes.

 

So, apparently not corruption, but animation mods expecting this feature to be on. (probably 1PP). Solved!
