Alternative icons for fine weapons

Recommended Posts

Mxtu has been kind enough to produce a set of alternative BAM files for the "excellent" weapons introduced in SCS's "replace +1 weapons with Excellent weapons" component. They're available here for download. The simplest way to use them is just to dump them into the override after SCS is installed. (Uninstalling SCS should uninstall this change too.)

They look really good mxtu! Especially so compared to the hideous green weapons.

Related to "Fine" weapons, but not directly to the icons - so feel free to move it into another topic - I was wondering about the components "Replace many magic weapons with fine ones" (SCS) and "Replace +1 magical weapons with Fine ones" (SCS2):

1) in a BGT game, will either - as they are mutually exclusive - affect (exactly) the same weapons in BG1 and BG2?

2) what does "SCSII versions will not be shatter-proof" mean?

Would this be implemented next time you come to an update of SCS?

Probably.

I think the latter are ported from IWD, though I can't remember (it's seven years since I coded it).

(1) pretty much, so far as I can recall.

(2) I think it's a typo, and I meant "SCS versions". In any case, the point is that the SCSII versions don't keep track of the iron crisis and the SCS versions do.

(Sorry, I'm a bit immersed in IWD-in-BG2 and can't immediately recall how this works. As always, SCS(II) is really designed around the Tutu rather than the BGT paradigm, so I'm not always 100% sure how they interact! A longer-term project is to merge them into a unified install so I can keep better track, but don't hold your breath. )

Ok now I feel a bit bad. I thought the green weapons were stock BG1. I rather meant that they are the best looking masterwork weapons yet ;)

But I don't have to worry about weapon shattering in BG2 (with BGT) if I install the component from SCS? If you don't know how it will interact (per your quote below), you don't really need to research that.

No need to apologise for being immersed in IWD-in-BG2! You and me both :) I'll not hold my breath, but I will look forward to it!

It's just IR usually is one of the last in the install order, and it goes like this: scs -> scs' fine weapons -> ... -> ir (that revises everything, fine weapons included) -> ir's masterwork weapons which I usually choose to skip -> no fine weapons in game at all.

Although I suppose that'd be more of work on Demi's part :x

Those icons looks much better, than that atrocious green ones. They should be long time ago included into SCS main file.

But will be this mod finished one day? I know after 4 years it's rhetorical question, but still. It miss composite long bow, mace, scimitar, two-handed sword, flail, and spear icons. Also, why katana doesn't have "excellent" version? And why excellent short sword icon is smaller? Also scimitar +1 has unique icon in nonmoded baldur, don't know why it was replaced by normal one in SCS (now you can't tell which one is normal and which one magical).

I also agree that it would be nice to have a complete version of this. It would also make a good Tweaks component, as a simple graphical replacement for the non-magical Fine weapons in IWD.

This would much better go into Tweaks than to SCS. Yes, there's small tactical difference, but so what.

Why ? -you ask. Well there's two options, aka not one. And they should differ only in appearance. And yes, these already a mod that adds +1 weapons to all the minor exotic weapons to BG1 portion of the game mods, but this should also no replace them, but include better inclusion.

This was originally intended to not include the +1 weapons at all. Yes, these replace the +1 weapons with just thac0 bonus giving fine weapons, and as there is no need for +1's, the icons could be replaced.

"nonmoded baldur"... you really think the BG1EE today is nonmoded ? :p Yes, the SCS was there before the EE games.
