Mage Trio Biographies

This is background information, provided soley in the interest of better understanding Yoshi's past with the mage duo that seeks to kill him. I'm expecting only a fraction of this, if any, will make it into the dialogues. Mainly, fleshing this out just helps me as a story writer. Some of this material could come up later in the PC's discussions, although as I say, I suspect not in great detail. Then again, as long as the player has the option to bail out of the conversation, it may be of interest to some.

Tososan

The leader of the trio, he is sometimes known among the pirate community as the "Iron Claw."

Torosan is a natural born leader with a powerful command presence. He is 41. His voice is about one octave lower Torosan most men's. He is powerfully built and physically imposing as well.

Torosan is deadly serious and no-nonsense when it comes to combat, and planning for it. He is supremely focused on his goals and a brilliant strategist and practical problem solver. His capacity for unwavering concentration, assessing a wide field of peripheral vision flooded with stimuli, and fluid reaction on the fly is truly exceptional. Torosan's prowess in battle was ultimately the lynchpin of the trio. He is a man of iron will, and extraordinary fortitude, determination, and focus. To some extent, these natural strengths are reflected in his spellcasting routines.

Torosan is also legendary in his ability to bed countless women and tolerate volumes of wine and spirits that would incapacitate most men. For all of his seriousness as a soldier of fortune, he plays just as hard during the trio's wild parties. Torosan is often the life of the party. When partying his hard-bitten, sardonic sense of humor emerges full force.

Although he rarely needs to use it, Torosan carries an enchanted blade that he calls the “Black Eagle.â€Â

Demorthas

Demorthas is 32.

Demorthas' specialty is the use of death magics. Unlike many necromancers Demorthas has no particular interest in making the deceased into undead and controlling them. His interest in death is from a metaphysical standpoint, as a magical energy.

Demorthas has a very wry and often whimsical sense of humor. Quite the philosopher, he regards the cycle of life and death as a kind of ultimate irony. For him irony elicits a sense of astonishment and amusement. He is the most naturally gifted creative thinker of the group, and often it is his input that will get them thinking outside of the box.

Demorthas carries an enchanted ring.

Kesalo

Kesalo was the one slain in Calimport by Yoshimo for a bounty.

He was the youngest, joining the group at age 22 and killed at 25.

Kesalo was a relatively large man, but extremely agile and very nimble given his size. He had acquired 5 levels of Thief as a youngster before wholeheartedly delving into the study of magic with his uncle.

Kesalo's uncle was a gifted Transmuter in Zazesspur, who raised Kesalo when his merchant parents were lost at sea (it was presumed from a storm). The ne'er-do-well uncle used Kesalo from the tender age of 6 to sneak about the city and steal items in order for the uncle to fund the uncle's arcane studies. The youth loved to roam the large bustling city looking for mischief anyway. He was often accompanied on these burglary missions by the uncle’s cat familiar; on the rare occasions that Kesalo was discovered, the little orphan would burst into tears and claim he was attempting to retrieve his lost kitty.

Kesalo was a child prodigy as a mage. He specialized as a Conjurer. Kesalo showed a precocious ability at the age of 11 to summon creatures. He became highly advanced as a mage by age 18. He then struck out on his own to offer his mercenary skills as a mage protecting caravans. After honing his skills in this manner, by the age of 20 he turned to the high seas to ply his mercenary talents for pirate ships.

Kesalo was an entertaining goofball. He was the devil-may-care 'clown' among the three. He often engaged in the most outrageous exploits. He was the one they typically laughed about most, and ended up telling the funniest stories about. Kesalo was almost impossible not to like. Although many who feel unable to suffer fools, eventually may have felt it necessary to part ways with him.

Torosan and Demorthas became very attached to Kesalo. So extraordinary were some of the rescues they had to make of Kesalo when he got himself into trouble that those escapades ultimately served to deepen their fondness for him. Their constant adventures getting Kesalo out of seemingly impossible jams ultimately strengthened the already powerful bond among the three.

History of the Trio

Now a duo of mages who hire out to pirate ships, they were once a trio. The three named themselves the ___.

Before to joining forces, all three of them had sailed the Nelanther Isles, individually, on various pirate ships.

Each was a very powerful mage in his own right. They were much feared, and highly sought after for their skills. Two of them (Torosan and Demorthas) had even worked with the other at least once in the past.

By chance they all met one night in a tavern. With each working independently, they knew it was only a matter of time before they crossed paths on enemy ships. Eventually only one would be left standing. So they decided to form a trio and hire out as a group.

From the first night that they all met together, the three instantly became fast friends. There was a natural chemistry to the group. A powerful bond formed that was reinforced through their skilled teamwork together.

In battle they each could tell by one another’s eye contact, facial expression and other non-verbal cues precisely what each intended to do next. Each was highly attuned to each other’s thinking style and personality. They almost automatically found themselves fine-tuning their individual skills to one another’s to become a virtually invincible collective attack force.

They demanded enormous cuts of the plunder on any ship they joined. Soon they became some of the wealthiest men to sail on the Trackless Sea.

The trio was truly swashbuckling, living life with gusto. As formidable as they were in battle, they were almost as legendary for their excesses when enjoying the spoils of their ventures at various ports in the Lands of Intrigue. They frequently would spend vast sums of their plunder on lavish and licentious parties that would sometimes last up to a tenday.

All went famously for the trio for several years. But in time the youngest and most reckless the trio, Kesalo, garnered the ill will of a powerful Calishite pasha. This ultimately cost young Kesalo his life.

Kesalo was an impulsive sort. And when acting alone (which he seemed always to incorrigibly do given enough time and opportunity), Kesalo would usually ended up getting himself into some sort of jam that the other two would have to bail him out of. The trio had many a tale to tell of rescuing Kesalo in one way or another.

Yoshimo had sailed with the trio on one voyage of the Sea Witch in the past, and had gotten to know them fairly well. Well enough to exploit Kesalo’s habitual lack of caution.
