Conditional rebalancing of items to account for other mods

I'm not sure if this is Item Randomiser or not, but I got a Spear +3 "Revenger" from Zargal the hobgoblin (who's in an early BG1 area).

a) This seemed an overly powerful item to get from such an easy kill.

b) I can't even find any mention of a spear called "Revenger" anywhere. Where is this from?

It's possible some mod has high-jacked Backbiter (sper03) for its own purposes. Backbiter and Zargal are both tier 25. But that's just speculation at this point.

Are you playing BGT or Tutu?

If you can look up the file name with e.g. NI, we can try to find out where it comes from.

Thanks.

I guess I could move sper03 to a higher tier. Even the vanilla item may be more powerful than the average tier 25 item (typically a generic +1 weapon) and it's definitely too powerful if it's no longer cursed.

I'll think about it (and I'm open to suggestions).

Yeah, the stats don't change, just the name and desc (and the flag :hm:)

If you're gonna consider this, it might be great if you could consider all the other items changed by CursedItems as well  (which would be great since that mod is now being considered by IR :)) So, if you want (and if Salk doesn't beat me to it ;)) I could list up all the items who just get their flags removed (in spoiler tags cause they're oh-so-secret ;)), so you could move them to a higher tier if the mod is installed ... or you could just download CItems and look at it yourself ;)

I suppose I'll have to do something like that.

I have Cursed Items and Item Revisions pegged as mods that'll require me to do some rebalancing, but if anyone know of additional mods that change the power of vanilla items, please mention them.

Likewise, I'll gladly listen to recommendations of how specific items should be rebalanced (e.g. Revenger +3 is too powerful for tier 25). Especially so for items changed by Item Revisions, as I have no experience with that mod, but hear that the items are supposed to be balanced within the mod (meaning, item X may seem way powerful to me, but compared to other Item Revisions items, it may not be that powerful).

And here's a basic list o things it changes :hm: (damn thee, non-spoilerish spoiler tags )

All these items get their cursed flags removed btw ...

belt05 (adds lore bonus)

brac08 (adds strength)

brac11 (adds attacks per round)

helm02 (adds detect alignment)

ring04 (adds dexterity ... and stuff I'm too noob to decipher)

ring23 (adds casting speed boost and protection from spwi410 and sppr307)

misc7y (does some very complex voodoo)

... and these just have their flags removed (and changed names/descs)

blun09

misc72

sw1h19 (btw, this is modded by too many mods to list)

sw2h03

boot08

leat06

plat17

sper03

... it also relocates some stuff.

That ogre mage is tier 27 and there is a shield in tier 27 (Large Shield +1, +4 vs. Missiles). However, I don't know where this new shield is from. If you use e.g. Shadow Keeper, can you look up the file name of the item? If it's shld07, it's another possible case of an item needing rebalancing. (The other option is complaining about mods adding custom items by overwriting vanilla items. Why do they do that? Can't they just add a custom item like decent expletive people?) But I'd also need to know which mod is comes from, or at least a change-log, so I know where to start looking.

Large Shield +1, +4 vs. Missiles: 'Shield of the Falling Stars'

It's the same shield. IR changes its abilities (+10 Max HP, +2 AC to nearby allies). If you find any IR items overpowered in BG1 or elsewhere, please drop by our Feedback thread and let us know, since this is not the mod's goal.

This shield is overpowered for BG1 and has been nerfed for v3. I've sort of restored its original version (+5 Max HP, +2 AC vs. missiles). The AC vs. missile is lowered simply because revised large shields already grant +3 AC compared to vanilla's ones.

Anyway, as Mike says let me know if any IR item seems too powerful for BG1 and I'll surely try to "fix" that.
