Reinstalling the mod

Hi,

recently I uninstalled a different mod from my game, then realized that this means WeiDU reinstalls every other mod installed after the one in question - in this case, re-randomizing my items in WeiDU mode. Now I find lots of duplicate items (those that I already found but now have been re-randomized) while missing out on others entirely.

Are there any ways around this? I would typically install the randomizer fairly late in the installation order to make it easy to reinstall it when starting a new game, but that would mean any previously installed mods are effectively locked because they would reinstall the randomizer.

If there is no way of doing this at the moment, would it be possible to generate a random seed and save it during mode 2 installation? That way, the automatic reinstall could reuse the seed from the original installation, resulting in the same item distribution as before.

During a manual install or reinstall, the installer could ask the user whether to reuse an existing seed or generate a new one.

I've been meaning to implement something like this but I've kept putting it off. I'll try to add it to version 5. I'm sorry about your game.

Ok, that would be great!

Is there a way to see which items have been randomized to where (using mode 2)? Then I could use SK or the console to give myself one of the lost items whenever I find a duplicate. The problem is that now I just don't know for any given item if I haven't found it yet or if it is among the items lost to the second randomization.

And if I may ask, what else is planned for version 5? More randomized fun to look forward to?

Unfortunately mode 2 does not map the process. It is possible to extract the information from the debug file, but I wouldn't recommend that (or do it myself). Examining the areas you've already visited with e.g. NI and making note of which items were randomised there is probably you best bet. Random items in containers or on creatures in those areas are the ones you'll not find unless you start a new game. You may need to refer to the spoilers document.

V5 will be able to randomise more items, yes. I'd post the preliminary changes, but it's a bit messy at the moment.

This turned out to be rather more complicated than I first estimated. Rather than delaying v5 I've decided to put off doing it once more and to take another stab at it for v6 (whenever that will be). Until then Item Randomiser continues to be save-unfriendly.
