Version 5 of Item Randomiser is now available.

Some highlights of the new release:

 

  • A new component allows you to have several hundred mage scrolls randomised in both BG1 and Bg2.
  • Version 5 brings us ever so slightly closer to that elusive goal of randomising all randomisation-worthy items.
  • In a exciting development, v5 of Item Randomiser will be able to add SpellPack scrolls to its scroll pool, provided beta 6 of SpellPack (to be released) is installed.
  • Several other minor components have been added, including special intra-keep randomisation of the heads of the Flail of Ages and a harder time retrieving Kangaxx' body parts.
  • Some unfortunate bugs have been fixed, including a recent one that was likely to keep the mod from installing if e.g. SCSII's item redistributor was installed.

 

As usual, upgrading is inadvisable if you have a game in progress. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

A big LOL to the Kangaxx component :laugh: can't wait to find some odd golden legs in the underdark and think ''wth?'' from npc pow.

 

Nice touches with some high lvl scrolls locations.

 

Any word of compatibility with the Alternative mod? I'm worried about the ''Chapter 3, reward or loot from a named Shadow Thief or vampire'' location, could I miss it folllowing an alternate route?

Oh, that's not how it works. If the Kangaxx component is installed you will need 2 items to access the the bones and these items are randomised. You still obtain the bones by opening the sarcophaguses and fighting the liches.

Oh, that's not how it works. If the Kangaxx component is installed you will need 2 items to access the the bones and these items are randomised. You still obtain the bones by opening the sarcophaguses and fighting the liches.

To access which bones? The skull in the docks, or the ones kept by the liches? Any metagaming or roleplay involved?

Btw, any hint about how to customize the installation? My issue is that I don't like the Key card from the Deck of Many Things to be a location (I play with no reloads): atm I deleted the

w1	   10   spin621.spl   blank  w26	 DoMT Key draw

line from lists/weidulocation.2da and it looks like it keeps the +3 ring reward, while at the same time making the +3 ring availabe elsewere too. Not that big ( chances to have two of those rings are going to be slim, and it doesn't sound like a unique item anyway ), but I'm worried I'm losing some other item.

The stuff kept by the liches. The skull can be accessed normally. As for RP vs Metagaming I don't know if there's any real difference. But unlike the vanilla game you need to talk to the skull before you can fetch the bones (so you know what to do to open the sarcophaguses).

Assuming I haven't missed anything:

Malficus: You lose out on the blood pool item since you can't access the chapter 3 vampire lair. There's also a 25 % chance per "named ST or vampire" that you'll lose items (unless the item is a scroll) since you do not fight Arkanis Gath.

Aster: You find duplicates of most items given to "named ST or vampire" since the chapter 3 vampire lair and the ST compound are no longer mutually exclusive. You don't find duplicates of items given to Arkanis and a vampire since you only fight the vampire.

 

I'll fix the item duplication (probably with a hotfix posted here in the forum) but I'm inclined to leave the rest as it is.

You shouldn't lose any items. The mod makes up for the deficiency by using another tier 10 location twice. If you don't mind the two rings there should be no problem.

Alright, so.. after the hotfix shall I remove those chap3 locations from the location list in order to avoid losing those items if I know I'll follow the Malficus path?

 

 

Notes:

 

During my last playthrough I fooled Tolgerias having him first give the pc the reward for killing Valygar, then telling him I hide the body and then opening the planar sphere by myself. I think I ended with a duplicate ( well, I'm sure I had two rods of smiting, but I'm not sure Tolgerias was the cause... he's the only one I can think about anyway, and the tier matched at the time)

 

You can deal with the Solamnic Knights only if you run the Planar Sphere, so I shall delete that location if I'm not playing mage and don't want to miss any item; this makes me thinking if there should be a dedicated component about randomize stronghold items.

Well, the hotfix will only be relevant to Aster's path so if you know you'll go with Malficus you do not need to wait.

You have an additional option here. If you remove blun12 from itemlist.2da and ax1h09 from weiduitem.2da the blpool location and 1 chapter3 location (the one with ident w39) will automatically be unused. (The MoD and the Rifthome Axe will not be randomised and will be found at their usual places. Or not found, in your case). If you want all the items you should be able to just remove those three locations, yes.

Oops, I missed patching a script and Fixpack's efforts to prevent this bug were for naught. Will fix.

Item Randomiser should open up the Solamnic Knights for everyone.
