An assortment of problems and questions

Okay... I just got the GoG.com version of all five Infinity Engine games, after experiencing problems with the DVD versions of... well, almost all of them. So far I've installed BG1 and PST (testing them out in the order they were made); the GoG versions allowed me to play each game at full screen without killing the frame rate. Yay! But then I got cocky... I installed the widescreen mod for Baldur's Gate 1, and it's caused me lots of trouble...

My monitor's resolution is 1366x768. When I put the game in that mode, the frame rate went bad again. Okay, no problem, I went for a lower resolution, but every resolution I picked that's actually widescreen squished the entire game up into the corner instead of filling my screen. I tampered with a few 4:3 resolutions, settled on one, but... in the end, I couldn't get over all the movies being shuffled into the corner, the dialogue box and the inventory screens being all wonky... the game world looked GREAT, but it wasn't worth it. So I set it back to 640x480 and put it back into windowed mode. Same as it was before, only now all my previously-visited areas have the fog of war. Well, and the whole thing runs a lot more smoothly, which is great.

Is there an alternative, though? Is there some BG1 equivalent to the Torment UI mod, to make everything centered again? Since the widescreen resolutions don't work, is there a way to adjust it so it doesn't expand to fill my screen, making it all squishy? Some thing that offers black bars on the side of the square-ish image, maybe?

Which brings me to PST. It's looking okay at fullscreen - and I hadn't even realized that the DVD version was lagging a lot! The animation is actually really fast and fluid! I was surprised. And, with all the hassle that surrounded my attempts at the Baldur's Gate widescreen mod, I'm wondering if it's worth doing the same for Torment. I know that playing in widescreen requires the UI mod, but the download page at Spellhold Studios says that the UI mod was reported as broken - is it really?

I figure this won't be a problem for BG2 and the two IWDs, since they're all actually available at higher resolution. Does the widescreen mod work better for them than for BG1, or does it encounter the same side effects? And, if that's the case, is there any way I can at least alter the shape so they don't expand to fill my widescreen monitor?

Was this in the game screen or just the start menues ? They are not the exact best because there's no art assets to fill in the rest of the screen. No... OK, The alternative is to additionally use the BG1 GUI mod and one of the 5( 800x600, 1024x600, 1024x768, 1280x768, 1280x800) resolution options, and you need to install that after the Widescreen mod with that particular resolution setting in as full screen mode.

The actual best probable option you have is to use the BGT-weidu to combine the BG1 and BG2 games, as a one game that uses the BG2 engine, GUI etc, which have a full support, as the GUI's there are edited a bit better, centered etc. You could, but I sure won't forget the BG1Tutu that came around the same time as the original BGT, and later EasyTutu. But the BGT-weidu to me is the best of those all.

And yep PST has it's own GUI mod, which you mentioned. Just linking it here, cause I can.

And like said, the BG2's engine is the most researched and best in use... but with the above, these come close to that, if having a game in those resolution options is satisfactory, when using the aspect ration streching in your video software config.

Also the PST gui mod stretches the movies etc. Of course the Enhanced Edition games do a lot better with the GUI's, auto widescreen mode etc... or shall when the v1.4 patch comes out, or not... as it's a matter of an opinion. And yeah, they are a bit pricey, considering.

What comes to the BG1 lagging... well, I can't say I have had ever the issue, but I have used the BGT-weidu a lots, so I don't know, but perchance, maybe some of this will apply to it too.
